THEIR STORY

Augason Farms is a family run survival food company that was started in 1972. Phil Augason started Augason Farms because he was so disappointed in the quality and selection of emergency food products on the market. His first priority was to produce a healthy, great tasting powdered milk. After months of trial and error, he formulated Morning Moo’s Milk, our number one selling instant milk. The success of Morning Moo’s convinced Phil that there was a market full of people who wanted survival food that was not only nutritious, but was great tasting as well.

This led to the formulation of our simple mission statement:

PRODUCE NUTRITIOUS, LONG LASTING, HIGH QUALITY EMERGENCY FOODS THAT PEOPLE WANT TO EAT.

From that simple objective, Augason Farms has grown into one of the most respected, diverse emergency food companies in the world.

What is the Cheapest Pre-Packaged Emergency Food Supply?

Augason Farms offers some of the lowest-cost emergency food storage products on the market. Augason Farms #10 cans are both inexpensive but also well protected. The cans stack well and can easily be consumed within a year of opening so as to not spoil. Augason Farms also sells some products in smaller mylar pouches for an even lower cost of entry into food storage prepping. Augason also sells multiple sizes of buckets that make the cost per ounce cheaper when buying in bulk.

What Happened to Augason Farms?

Like all brands in the food storage and emergency prep industry, Augason Farms basically sold out overnight when COVID-19 lockdowns were announced. In a single evening, we sold more than any other single day in our company’s history. Stock was very hectic. We sold everything that was available. Some cancellations and returns were happening. As soon as stock was added back to our website it sold immediately. This continued for a few days to a week until everything went out of stock.

Luckily Augason Farms was deemed necessary and stayed in operation during the lockdowns. There were problems with supply chains and keeping enough workers busy. 3 shifts began working around the clock in an effort to keep up with demand. Everything remained out of stock for about a month.

Decisions were made to focus on “essential” products like rice, beans, eggs, etc. in lieu of spiffy whip and funeral potatoes.

Prep SOS became of the sole sources of Augason Farms for several months. We sold lots of food storage products, including bulk food kits.

Over time Augason Farms started adding additional products here and there. Supply chain issues persisted, bird flus abounded, and it was about like holding onto the back of a roller coaster. With every new strain of COVID hitting the public, individual product scarcities (strawberries, potatoes, etc.) individual products would go out of stock and remain that way for some time.

The following letter was sent via email to all distributors and resellers on 10/7/21 from Augason Farms/Blue Chip Group President, Mark Augason:

“Dear Valued Customer,

The lasting effect of COVID-19 has translated into global raw-material shortages and caused substantial delays in our procurement and production processes. Regrettably, BCG cannot fulfill your orders on time; therefore, this letter communicates our decision to suspend business for the next 90 days, effective immediately. During these 90 days, we will secure and stockpile raw materials and take measures to accelerate our round-the-clock production output. We will also review our product
assortment to make sure we focus on relevant, top-selling SKUs. We are confident that this reset period will help us better serve you with on-time, complete shipments in the future.

I sincerely appreciate your business and look forward to reinstating our partnership in early January 2022.

Thank you,

Mark Augason, President”

Then 5 days later the follow up below:

“October 12, 2021
Dear Valued Customer,

As we referenced in our October 7, 2021 letter, the lasting effect of COVID-19 has translated into unprecedented demand for preparedness food. In addition, global raw-material shortages have caused delays in our procurement of certain raw materials to be able to keep up with this demand. After this letter was sent, there was some confusion in the marketplace regarding Blue Chip Group and the Augason Farms brand.
To clarify, BCG and Augason Farms have NOT suspended operations, but rather, we are continuing to produce and ship products at the highest levels in company history. That said, we can not meet all customer needs at this time, due to the unprecedented higher demand, coupled with procurement delays. We are taking actions now that should allow us to resume shipments to all customers by January, 2022 or earlier.

Blue Chip Group continues to invest in our facilities and the Augason Farms brand to fulfill our mission as the pioneer and category leader to provide preparedness solutions for families across North America. We are planning for continued high category demand. During these 90 days, we will procure and stockpile raw materials and continue to take measures to accelerate production output. We will continue to provide preparedness solutions in #10 Cans, Pouches and Pails, but the available assortment
may adjust to increase our efficiency. We are confident that this reset period will help us better serve you with on-time, complete shipments in the future.

I sincerely appreciate your business and look forward to reinstating our partnership in early January 2022. I apologize for any confusion that the previous letter may have caused you or your organization.

Thank you,

Mark Augason, President”

And so it began, Augason Farms stopped selling directly to the public. They finished fulfilling our orders that they had in the queue and stopped supplying everyone for a brief time. They then began supplying a handful of select suppliers.

Augason Farms began stockpiling ingredients as Mark Augason mentioned and increased production as much as possible. January 2022 can and went and Augason Farms still did not start selling to the public or to all of it’s suppliers yet.

In February 2022 the Russia and Ukraine ware broke out. Many people starting frantically purchasing emergency food storage products again. Augason Farms did what they could to keep up with demand and did much better than the unexpected announcement of COVID lockdowns.

Then President of the United States, Joe Biden, in March 2022 publicly announced impending food shortages. This created similar demand as when COVID was first seen as a major threat. The difference this time is that the industry, and Augason Farms, was ready.

During this time that Augason Farms has not sold directly to the public, sales tax licenses appear to have expired, or were withdrawn, from each of the states in the US. In early January 2023 Augason Farms did a soft launch of selling a very small group of products directly to the public in a handful of states.

February 2023, most states are now able to purchase again. The following states are still not able to purchase: AR, CA, MO, and RI, assuming due to sales tax licenses still being re-established (although it could very well be due to something else.)

During this time, prices have increased substantially. Due to rising ingredient cost, inflation, work wage increased, increased shipping charges, fuel and gas prices soaring, amongst other factors, most companies have had no choice but to raise prices.

Is Augason Farms Going Out of Business?

No, Augason Farms is currently producing more food than ever and doesn’t plan to go anywhere. As supply chains and the economy is repaired and recovers we’ll see more and more products being reintroduced to the emergency food storage market.

Is Augason Farms Made in the USA?

All Augason Farms food products are manufactured and packaged in the United States. Sources of ingredients can vary from time to time and by location.

Where is Augason Farms Located?

Augason Farms’s warehouse and corporate offices are located in the same location. Their warehouse is large and they have a small brick-and-mortar store that may or may not be open after COVID-19 hitting. The address is:
